Heat Wave Expected All Week

Temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees above normal can be expected all week, with the exception of near the coast, said an NWS advisory.

1. A warming trend will begin in San Diego County Tuesday, sending temperatures in parts of the region soaring to 100 and above. The deserts will be the hottest, with highs forecast to reach up to 116 degrees by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees above normal can be expected all week, with the exception of near the coast, thanks to afternoon sea breezes, said an NWS advisory. Nighttime temperatures will also be higher than normal.

2. A search of a burned-out El Cajon house Monday yielded two bodies, including one believed to be that of a man suspected of fatally
shooting his infant daughter and mother-in-law and wounding a police officer, police said. Authorities believe Kevin James Collier, 32, torched the house after the shooting, and sent text messages to friends telling them what he had allegedly done, according to El Cajon police Lt. 3. Sailors aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans seized about 1,800 pounds of illegal drugs on the high seas west of San Diego, the Navy reported Monday. The New Orleans responded to a distress call from a 20-foot fishing boat on Saturday, and while on the way received reports that possible contraband
was being dumped overboard from the vessel, according to the Navy's Third Fleet.
