Government Offices Closed for Labor Day

A number of offices are closed for the federal holiday.

1. Local, state and federal offices will be closed Monday for Labor Day. Many county parks will be open, with the exception of the El Capitan Preserve, Hellhole Canyon Preserve, Wilderness Gardens Preserve and and Mount Gower Preserve. Community centers in Fallbrook, Lakeside and Spring Valley will be closed, along with the Spring Valley Gym, 4S Ranch Sports Complex, and teen centers in Lakeside and Spring Valley.

2. Cleveland National Forest announced that elevated fire restrictions were imposed Sunday as the dry ''forest fire season'' looms closer. The heightened restrictions are because of  "dryer fuel conditions, higher temperatures and the likelihood of small fires becoming large fires,'' Cleveland National Forest Public Affairs Officer Brian Harris said.

3. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Monday for the 16th time in 17 days, increasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.964, the highest since June 7. The average price is 14.7 cents higher than one week ago, 15.2 cents more than one month ago and 93.1 cents above what it was at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The run of increases is the result of refinery issues, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
