Government Offices Closed for Columbus Day

1. Federal, state and county offices in the San Diego area are closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Banks and post offices are also closed but most city offices and libraries are open.

2. A 63-year-old Orange County man died after collapsing onto his surfboard in Oceanside off Camp Pendleton, the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office said Sunday. Charles Solon Todd Jr. of Aliso Viejo had been surfing Saturday morning at Surf Beach, south of Trestles. Witnesses observed Todd ride a wave into shore, sit on his board, and then collapse forward onto his board, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said. Read the full story on . 

3. A 53-year-old motorcycle rider killed in a freakish crash near Julian was identified Sunday. Rogelio Malihan of San Diego died in Saturday's roughly 11:50 a.m. accident on state Route 79 near Pine Hills Road. Read the full story on .
