Gas Prices Rise by 8.5 Cents in One Week

The average price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline is nearly $4.13.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline, heading into this weekend in San Diego County, is nearly $4.13—having risen almost 4 cents in the past two days. That's 8.5 cents more than a week ago, 19.2 cents more than this time last month and a $1.01 more than this time last year.

2. Authorities Friday are calling out for any tipsters who might be able to help identify a shooter who opened fire on state Route 163 in the Kearny Mesa area earlier this week. The shooter wounded a college student on her way to school and damaged a second car. According to the California Highway Patrol,  the gunfire took place near Balboa Avenue about 7:15 Tuesday morning. 3. A medical organization meeting in San Diego asserted that illegal immigrants should have access to health care so they don't spread dangerous diseases to others. "Access to care for immigrants is a public health issue that should be of concern to all of us,'' said Dr. J. Fred Ralston, the president of the American College of Physicians, holding its Internal Medicine 2011 meeting at the San Diego Convention Center.
