Las Salinas Sewage Spill

A broken line at the Las Salinas Treatment Plant in Oceanside Friday caused about 3,000 gallons of secondary treated sewage to spill into Loma Alta Creek, county officials said.

The spill started about 12:15 p.m. and ended about 1:40 p.m., when crews from the city's waste water division fixed the line at the plant in the 1300 block of Tait Street, according to county Department of Environmental Health.

Signs warning of the sewage contamination were posted at Buccaneer Beach from 1,000 feet north and south of the Loma Alta Creek Outlet.

The closure will remain until samples from the water confirm it is safe for recreational use, DEH Land and Water Quality Division Chief Mark McPherson said.
