FBI Urges Fraud Awareness in Online Vehicle Shopping

Buyers and sellers should both be careful, said the FBI.

1. The FBI is urging online shoppers to be on the lookout for fraudulent vehicle sales. Online vehicle shoppers should be cautious of sellers who push for speedy sales via money transfer, sellers who refuse to meet in person or allow for vehicle inspection prior to purchase, and vehicles advertised well below their market value, according to FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth. Buyers should also be wary when the seller is in a different location and of sellers who wish to move the transaction from one website to another, such as from craigslist to eBay, as well as those promising a vehicle protection plan from an Internet provider, even if the sale did not take place on that company's website. The FBI urged anyone who has fallen victim to the scam to file a complaint online at IC3.gov.

2. The Old Globe Theatre named a new leading man Tuesday for its upcoming stage production of "The Rocky Horror Show.'' Matt McGrath, who recently portrayed the emcee in a revival of "Cabaret,'' will replace acclaimed Broadway actor James Barbour, who announced his exit last week in the wake of San Diego media reports on a decade-old scandal involving Barbour and a 15-year-old girl in New York.

3. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose six-tenths of a cent Wednesday to $3.736, the fourth increase in five days following a 16-day streak of decreases. The average price is 1.6 cents more than one week ago and 62.9 cents higher than at this time last year, but 8.3 cents lower than a month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
