Downed Trees Possible With Strong Winds, Rain

Powegians will soon see heavy rains and strong winds.

Spring will make a stormy arrival in San Diego Sunday, with forecasters predicting gale-force winds, rain and snow in the mountains.

Rain is expected to develop late Sunday and continue through Monday morning, bringing an inch or more to the coastal region and up to 2 feet to the mountains above 5,000 feet.

Winds out of the south will begin blowing at 15-25 mph early Sunday, then increase to about 35 mph in the afternoon, with stronger gusts possible. Forecasters say downed trees and power lines are possible.

Thunderstorms are possible once the storm front sweeps into the region Sunday evening, according to the NWS, which issued a flash flood watch and a wind advisory for coastal areas.

In the mountains, a winter weather advisory will be in effect for elevations of 5,500 or more.
