DOD Announces Deaths of Two Marines in Afghanistan

1. The Department of Defense Saturday announced the deaths of two California-based Marines killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Staff Sgt. Nicholas A. Sprovtsoff, 28, of Davison, Mich., and Sgt. 2. A brush fire charred about 960 acres near the Shelter Valley community Saturday, Cal Fire said. The blaze was reported about 12:55 p.m. and the cause remained under investigation, according to Cal Fire spokeswoman Roxanne Provaznik. 3. An off-duty San Diego police officer was one of two people killed in a series of crashes involving several vehicles Saturday on a San Diego freeway, authorities said. Officer Jason Prokop, 34, was traveling south on Interstate 15 in a 2011
