DOD Announces Death of San Diego Soldier

Kristoffer B. Domeij, who is from San Diego, was killed in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

1. A soldier from San Diego was killed in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Sunday. Sgt. 1st Class Kristoffer B. Domeij died from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by an improvised explosive device on Saturday. The 29-year-old soldier was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, the Department of Defense said.

2. The newest destroyer to join the Navy's Pacific Fleet is scheduled to arrive at its homeport of San Diego Monday. The USS Spruance is the second American warship ship to be named after Admiral Raymond Spruance, who commanded Carrier Task Force 16 during the Battle of Midway in World War Two. It carries a crew of 285 sailors, along with Tomahawk cruise missiles, a 5-inch gun, sonar systems and two helicopters.

3. A former Navy man who made hundreds of calls to a woman's telephone and tracked her through GPS technology after she made clear their relationship was over is scheduled to be sentenced in San Diego Monday. Michael Lutz, 30, pleaded guilty to a cyberstalking charge on June 8 and faces up to five years in prison. Lutz was in the Navy, stationed in San Diego, at the time of the cyberstalking but has since left the military.
