Detectives Arrest 29 in Warrant Sweep

In addition to the warrant arrests, one man was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and violating a temporary restraining order, authorities said.

Warrant Sweep

Detectives and deputies arrested 29 people Saturday when they swept through San Marcos and surrounding unincorporated areas looking for people doidging arrest warrants, the San Diego County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies from the Vista Court Services Field Unit and detectives assigned to the Fugitive Task Force cleared 37 mostly misdemeanor warrants, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Joel Wigand.

In addition to the warrant arrests, one man was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and violating a temporary restraining order, Wigand said.

Deputies found the man as they responded to an Escondido residence to arrest a woman with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, Wigand said.

Deputies discovered the woman had a temporary restraining order against the man, and he was taken into custody, Wigand said.

All the arrestees were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, Wigand said.

Fatal Crash

A 65-year-old man was killed Saturday when his truck struck a tree in University City shortly after being  involved in a hit-and-run crash, San Diego police said.

The driver of a white Dodge Ram rear-ended a black Chevrolet Colorado about 2:20 p.m. in the 3900 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and left the scene, police said.

The Dodge was spotted about 30 minutes later driving down the raised center divide on Governor Drive and Stresemann  Street, police said.

The truck struck a tree and the 65-year-old driver died at the scene, police said.

A responding officer noticed the truck matched the description of the one that was involved in the earlier hit-and-run crash, police said.

Alleged Stabbing

A 31-year-old man allegedly stabbed his brother 15 times Saturday in Encanto, police said.

The incident was reported at 6:53 p.m. in the 1900 block of Klauber Avenue, Officer David Stafford of the San Diego Police Department said.

"Two brothers got into an argument about the younger brother's girlfriend, who is living in the same residence," Stafford said in a statement.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his 42-year-old brother 15 times in the back, arms and hands, Stafford said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds, he said.

An investigation was continuing.
