Deputy Mayor Jim Cunningham Announces Run for Re-Election

First elected to the City Council in 2008, Cunningham says he hopes to continue shepherding Poway through difficult economic times.

Deputy Mayor Jim Cunningham will soon file his paperwork to run for City Council in 2012, it was announced on Monday.

Cunningham—who was elected to the City Council in 2008—said over the past three years since his time on the council, the city "has had three consecutive balanced budgets, a continued commitment to safety" and a "number of ordinances and votes that reflect a commitment to increase the quality of life in Poway."

"I am running for re-election now for the exact same reason I ran the first time, to make sure that we not only survive the significant economic challenges that I am sure await Poway, but that we thrive and prosper through these difficult times," said Cunningham in a statement.
