County's Assessed Value of Taxable Property Grows by $2B

The growth seen in 2010 brings the total value of the nearly 979,000 parcels to $395.7 billion in the region.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County decreased Thursday for the 53rd time in 55 days, falling 1.2 cents to $3.786, the lowest since March 1. The average price is 7.9 cents less than one week ago and 23.2 cents less than a month ago but 65.2 cents more than at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

2. Callaway Golf announced Thursday that it is undergoing a reorganization to cut costs, amid an expected second quarter net loss of $55 million and a leadership change. Meanwhile, the Carlsbad-based company's president and chief executive officer has resigned and been replaced by Anthony "Tony'' Thornley on an interim basis, according to a company statement. George Fellows, 68, has held the position since August 2005 and helped the company expand internationally and cut costs. He cited the demands of a cross-country commute and family life in stepping down.

3. The assessed value of all taxable property in San Diego County grew by 0.51 percent, or about $2 billion, in 2010, the county's assessor announced Thursday. That brought the total value of the nearly 979,000 parcels to $395.7 billion, which is expected to generate $3.9 billion in property taxes. Assessor Ernie Dronenburg attributed the climb in the property tax roll to fewer residential
assessment appeals, additional assessments after sales or construction, and indexing of Proposition 13 values.
