County Gas Prices 88 Cents Higher Than a Year Ago

Gas prices rise for the 36th time in 38 days.

1. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Friday to its highest amount since Aug. 19, 2008, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $3.964. The 36th increase in 38 days pushed the average price 9.5 cents higher than a week ago, 53.9 cents above what it was one month ago and 88.1 cents greater than it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price is 66.6 cents less than the record high of $4.63 set on June 19, 2008.

2. Volunteers are being sought to help clean up parks in San Diego County and throughout the state next month during the California State Parks Foundation's 14th annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup. On April 16, the foundation will conduct environmental improvement projects at 36 parks statewide -- including the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Palomar Mountain State Park, San Elijo State Beach, South Carlsbad State Beach and Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in San Diego County.
