Clouds and Rain Likely to Conceal Supermoon

Our moon will be closer to Earth on Saturday than anytime within the past 18 years, with rain likely coming Sunday through Monday.

Saturday’s full phase brings our moon closer to Earth than anytime within the past 18 years. Our single celestial satellite will appear (to the discernible few) 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a normal full phase, hence assigning it supermoon status. Saturday’s moon rising begins at 7:23 p.m. PDT. Whether we'll  be able to view it at all depends on forthcoming changing weather conditions, including rain.

Saturday night's forecast is mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 46° F. Rain is likely Sunday.

The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of rain during the day on Sunday and 90 percent liklihood that night into Monday morning, with a 70 percent chance of rain the rest of Monday. The sun should return by Tuesday.
