Camp Pendleton Marines Killed in Afghanistan ID'd

The Pentagon announces the deaths of Sgt. Adan Gonzales Jr. of Bakersfield and Sgt. Joshua J. Robinson of Omaha, Neb.

1. The Pentagon Tuesday announced the combat deaths of two Camp Pendleton-based Marines in Afghanistan. Sgt. Adan Gonzales Jr., 28, of Bakersfield, and Sgt. Joshua J. Robinson, 29, of Omaha, Neb., died Sunday in Helmand province, the Defense Department reported. 2. After a three-month regulatory delay, the UCSD Medical Center's Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center was officially opened to the public
Monday. The four-story center, adjacent to Thornton Hospital, combines the medical disciplines involved in treating heart disease into one facility. Scripps Health is building a similar center nearby that's expected to open in four years. For more, visit LaJolla.Patch.com.

3. San Diego County Department of Animal Services announced Monday it will begin taking applications from people interested in adopting a female terrier mix that recently performed in a stage production of "Annie.'' The 5-year-old dog named "Mocha'' was at the animal shelter in Bonita when a trainer looking for a dog to play "Sandy'' found her in May. Now that the show is over, she's available for adoption by a family. "Annie,'' coincidentally, is about a young girl who is adopted. For more, visit Carlsbad.Patch.com.
