Autopsy Pending for Man Killed in 1-5 Crash

The accident involving one vehicle was reported late Saturday night.

1. An autopsy was pending Sunday on a man who died in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 5 north near Camp Pendleton. The accident just south of Harbor Drive was reported at 9:29 p.m. Saturday, with the California Highway Patrol later confirming that a man died. All northbound lanes were closed until about 10 p.m. to accommodate the investigation. No other information was made available early Sunday, pending an autopsy.

2. A 19-year-old man arrested in a failed attempt to rob an Encinitas Rite-Aid of Oxycontin was behind bars Sunday. Alan Buckley walked into the store at 439 Santa Fe Drive about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, wearing trying to shield his face from surveillance cameras with a hood and a hand, Encinitas police Sgt. 3. Authorities Saturday confirmed a body found in a remote location of San Diego County was that of a 34-year-old missing Carlsbad woman. Kathleen Cary Scharbarth's death continued to be investigated as a homicide, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office that reported on its website Scharbarth died at 7:55 p.m. Friday, but did not list a cause of death or place of injury. A body that closely matched Scharbarth's description had been found and recovered late Friday night in what Carlsbad police Chief Gary Morrison would only say was "a remote location in San Diego County."
