Graduating seniors Bryan and Justin Yee have thoroughly experienced Poway High School.

The fraternal twins have excelled in academics, arts and athletics.

Bryan, who is 16 minutes older than his brother, has a 4.15 GPA, and Justin has a 4.2 GPA. The two have taken five Advanced Placement courses each.

In addition to their academics, they have actively participated in the high school’s award-winning marching band, Emerald Brigade, since they were freshmen.

Bryan has been the trumpet section leader for two years. He has also played the trumpet in Poway High School’s Symphonic Orchestra for three years.

Justin has been the Emerald Brigade saxophone section leader for two years. He also plays lead alto saxophone in the school’s jazz band, which he has participated in for four years.

In addition, Justin has been selected for the All-Southern High School Honor Band as a junior and a senior. He was also recently selected for the All-State High School Honor Band, which will perform in Fresno this weekend.

“Music has really taught me to organize my time,” Justin said. “I think having music alongside school helps me get through the stress. It makes high school a lot more enjoyable than just academics.”

Both Bryan and Justin, who turn 18 on Feb. 28, have had to learn to manage their time. In addition to their classes and band commitments, they are involved in high school athletics.

Justin has been on the track and field team for four years, and he has been on the pole vault team for three years.

For four years, Bryan has been on both the cross country and the track and field teams. He plans to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on June 5.

“I try to put my best effort in everything that I try to do,” Bryan said. “I don’t see any reason not to do something better. Otherwise, it’s just passing time if I’m not trying to reach a higher goal or improve.”

After graduation, both plan to attend a four-year university in California. Bryan wants to study civil engineering and Justin wants to study biology. Bryan and Justin also want to continue music in college by joining the marching band or another ensemble.
