Brown Appoints Five San Diego County Residents to 22nd Agricultural District Board

The board members, who will oversee the Del Mar Fairgrounds, do not require Senate confirmation.

1. Gov. Jerry Brown Friday appointed five San Diego area residents to the Board of Directors for the 22nd Agricultural District, which operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The appointees, who do not require Senate confirmation, are Lisa Barkett, 52, of La Jolla; Tom Chino, 62, of Del Mar; David Lizerbram, 35, of San Diego; Frederick Schenk, 57, of San Diego; and David Watson, 54, of Chula Vista.

2. The San Diego Association of Governments Board of Directors Friday heard two options for financing the proposed $344.5 million
purchase of the state Route 125 toll road. The lightly traveled South Bay Expressway from Spring Valley through eastern Chula Vista to Otay Mesa was a financial bust and is now owned by a group of banks and creditors. Read the full story on .

3. A stretch of water off Mission Beach was closed again after an experienced surfer spotted a 14-inch dorsal fin in the water Friday, San Diego lifeguards said. The fin was spotted about 8 a.m. about 100 yards from Tower 13, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque.
