Holiday Bowl Donation

Bridgepoint Education announced Thursday that it donated $59,000 to San Diego-based Freedom Station, based on ticket sales to Wednesday's Holiday Bowl football game, which it sponsors.

The company gave the organization, which helps injured members of the armed forces make the transition back to civilian life, $1 for every ticket sold to Texas' 21-10 victory over California -- along with a little extra cash to round up the round figure.

Miramar Crash

A man was seriously injured Thursday when he ran a stop sign at a Miramar intersection which caused a multiple vehicle crash that sent two other motorists to hospitals.

The driver of a Toyota Camry, who was in his 40s, rolled through a stop sign at Miramar Road and Padgett Street about 3:55 p.m. and collided with a Chevrolet truck making a left turn in the intersection, according to San Diego Police Department Officer David Stafford.

The Chevrolet was then pushed into a Mercedes-Benz waiting in the left turn lane, Stafford said.

The Camry's driver was taken to a trauma center to be treated for a brain bleed sustained in the crash and the drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to hospitals to be treated for minor injuries, Stafford said.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no charges were pending.

Man Extradited to Mexico

A San Diego man arrested in California last year in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter in Tijuana was extradited to Mexico Thursday to stand trial.

Joshua Moses Morales, 36, is charged with aggravated homicide in the sexual abuse and killing of the toddler on Feb. 6, 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Authorities said the girl was attacked when the defendant's girlfriend was at work and had left her daughter with Morales at their Tijuana apartment.

Later that evening, the child was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead due to severe bodily trauma, according to authorities.

Morales, a U.S. citizen, fled to the United States and was arrested in February 2010 in Corcoran by U.S. marshals.

Last April, a federal judge in Fresno certified Morales' extradition to Mexico.

A writ challenging the court's findings was denied earlier this month.
