Authorities Search for Highway Gunman

The CHP says the shots were fired from a white Chevrolet Malibu registered to 24-year-old Enrique Ayon.

1. Authorities are searching Tuesday for a so-called person of interest in connection with a freeway shooting spree that left a motorist wounded. The California Highway Patrol says the shots were fired from a white Chevrolet Malibu registered to 24-year-old Enrique Ayon. Ayon is Latino, about 5 feet 8 and 190 pounds. Authorities say the shootings occurred on Interstate 805 and Interstate 5 late Monday morning. A motorist who suffered a calf wound is expected to recover.

2. Light rain is falling around San Diego County as the first of a pair of cold Pacific storms bears down on the region. According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will occur throughout Tuesday before much heavier rainfall arrives with the second storm Wednesday. Fairer weather is expected to return Friday.

3. A Metropolitan Transit System bus rider who was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis may have exposed others to the disease, the county's Health and Human Services Agency reported Monday. HHSA is working with MTS to notify riders who took the 6:35 a.m. express bus route 860 from Carmel Mountain Ranch toward downtown, or the 4:10 p.m. express route 860 from Pacific Highway and Grape toward North County, during the exposure period between June 1 and Sept. 14.
