Appeals Court Rules in Favor of PUSD in God Banner Ban Case

A federal appeals court says the district did not violate the First Amendment rights of a Westview High School calculus teacher when it ordered him to take down banners in his classroom that referred to God.

2. A new study commissioned by the state and conducted by San Francisco State University finds that Torrey Pines State Beach and other beaches could be submerged within less than 90 years if ocean levels continue to rise at current rates. According to the study, Torrey Pines would be completely swamped if coastal-water levels rise by 4.6 feet by the end of the century.

3. San Diego-based Sempra Energy Wednesday announced a successor to its retiring president, Neal Schmale. Effective Oct. 1, Mark Snell will become president of Sempra Energy, overseeing infrastructure and international businesses, the Fortune 500 company announced in a statement. Snell, 55, currently serves as Sempra's executive vice president and chief financial officer. Sempra also announced today that  Joseph Householder, 56, will succeed Snell. Householder currently serves as senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer of the company.
