More Than 5,000 Run in Chelsea King's Memory
Thousands of people come to Balboa Park for a 5k run in memory of Poway High's Chelsea King.

More than 5,000 people finished Chelsea King's run Saturday morning in Balboa Park.
The event, a fundraiser to support the Chelsea's Light Foundation, drew people from around the region for the first annual Finish Chelsea's Run.

The 5k race, which took off at 7:30 a.m., was a celebration of the slain Poway High student who was an avid runner.
"We're here to celebrate a great moment," said Brent King, Chelsea's father. "Chelsea lived with a joy and started every day with a song."

Poway residents also made a strong showing at the event.
"We ran track together, she was always trying to make people smile," said Tony Kirouac, a former classmate.
