About 100 Marines, Sailors to Return from Afghanistan

The Marines and sailors will arrive at MCAS Miramar Wednesday afternoon.

1. About 100 Marines and sailors in the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing will arrive home from their deployment to Afghanistan Thursday.  They're scheduled to arrive at MCAS Miramar this afternoon. Marines at the base are also scheduled to participate in the annual Battle Colors Ceremony, featuring the USMC Silent Drill Platoon, Drum and Bugle Corps and the Battle Color Guard. The Drum and Bugle Corps combines contemporary songs and traditional marching music with uniquely choreographed drill movements in a program entitled "Music in Motion." The Silent Drill Platoon performs intricate drill routines without verbal commands. The performance is highlighted by the platoon rifle inspector's unrivaled inspection of his Marines while performing difficult spins and exchanges.

2. Opening statements were expected today in the trial of a former Camp Pendleton Marine who is charged in the beating and stabbing death of an Oceanside man in a dispute over a refurbished classic car. Xavier Akeem Adams, 20, will face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of killing 23-year-old Charles Evan Williams last Aug. 23. Adams is charged with first-degree murder.

3. It will be mostly sunny in Poway Wednesday with highs in the 70s.
