Gov. Jerry Brown and wife Ann Gust Brown Saturday offered condolences to the family and friends of six Camp Pendleton-based Marines who were killed in a helicopter collision during a training exercise on the outskirts of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

Killed in the Wednesday night crash near the California-Arizona border were Maj. Thomas A. Budrejko, 37, of Montville, Conn.; Capt. Benjamin N. Cerniglia, 31, of Montgomery, Ala.; Lance Cpl. Nickoulas H. Elliott, 21, of Spokane, Wash.; Sgt. Justin A. Everett, 33, of Clovis; Lance Cpl. Corey A. Little, 25, of Marietta, Ga.; and Capt. Michael M. Quin, 28, of Purcellville, Va.

They were assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Camp Pendleton, according to military officials.

Capt. Nathan W. Anderson, 32, of Amarillo, Texas, also was killed in the crash. He was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

The midair collision happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday when a AH-1W "Cobra" and a UH-1 "Huey" aircraft collided in flight over a remote part of the Yuma Training Range Complex. Two Marines were aboard the Cobra, and five in the Huey. No one survived the collision.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.

In memorial, the governor ordered the flags at the state Capitol be flown at half-staff today.

The Marines' families will receive a letter of condolence from the governor, according to a statement from the governor's office.
