24th Annual 'Stand Down' Concludes Sunday

The annual event in the city of San Diego attracts hundreds of veterans from around the region.

1. The parents of the 6-year-old boy injured Monday at the Spreckels mansion in Coronado reportedly were at their son's bedside Saturday,
as detectives tried to sort out the death of a 32-year-old woman found hanging nude from a balcony on Wednesday. Sheriff's detectives were tight-lipped about their investigation, and a spokesman for Rady Children's Hospital said they could not confirm broadcast reports that the boy, Max Shacknai, was brain dead. 2. The California Coastal Commission has unveiled a new license plate design. The new whale tail design, which will become available on Aug. 2, replaces the Robert Wyland-designed whale tail license plate. Read the full story .

3. The 24th annual "Stand Down" will conclude Sunday. The three-day event, which is hosted by the Veterans Village of San Diego, offers about 100 services to veterans and takes place at San Diego High School.
