Child Dies After Being Pulled from Pond
Sister calls 911 after she couldn't find the child.
1. Firefighters on Camp Pendleton used a controlled burn to remove accumulated brush and dead wood on an isolated northeast area of the post and warned North County residents to expect smoke in surrounding areas. The Camp Pendleton Fire Department conducted a seasonal hazard reduction burn in Case Springs, an isolated area near the northeast boundary of the base, according to Camp Pendleton officials.
2. A 2-year-old child that was airlifted to a San Diego hospital Saturday after falling into a pond in Ramona has died, authorities said. The toddler's older sister called 911 around 3:30 p.m. when she could not locate the child, said Capt. Mike Mohler of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. 3. Several motorists attempted to assist a driver injured Saturday in a crash on State Route 78 in San Marcos. The crash happened just before 11 a.m., on eastbound State Route 78 just west of the Nordahl Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
