Backstage Drama Behind Cancellation of Valitar? Show was at Fairgrounds

Horse show that opened Friday was set to run through the end of the month under big red tent.

Producers of a touring horse and acrobatics show that opened at the Del Mar Fairgrounds canceled their remaining shows amid lackluster ticket sales, the fairgrounds said.

Valitar, which featured more than 25 entertainers and 50 horses of various breeds, opened Friday and was set to run through the end of the month under a red 45,000-square-foot tent.

The show was created by Mark and Tatyana Remley, a native San Diegan who stars in the show.

U-T San Diego reported that cast member Darren Zatkow said he left the show in late September over artistic differences with the Remleys, “such as making Tatyana Remley the star of the show.”

“She’s not a good horse rider and he wanted her to be the star of the show and all of us to kowtow to her,” Zatkow was quoted as saying.

Zatkow said many of the original performers left for the same reasons before the show opened in Del Mar, the U-T reported.

Valitar also was going up against a similar equine show called Cavalia near Petco Park.

Tickets to Valitar were offered at 15 percent discount. Refunds for tickets bought through Ticketmaster, which ranged from $45 for kids weekday admission to $225 for a weekend or holiday VIP pass, are available by calling 800-745-3000, Linda Zweig of the fairgrounds said Thursday.

Those who bought tickets at the box office should call 858-792-4252
for a refund.

Congratulations on your win! What a fun time you both must have had. Yes, I'm jealous! It's the Marketing people for Valitar that should feel guilty if their performers, venders etc. ect. ect. are now out of work. If it wasn't for the Month and the price of the tickets they would all be working. What a shame!!!!

I wonder what the fate of the horses is, does anybody know where they are and if they have homes or are in need of homes

This Company is probably booked for the year or more. They will just go on to their next performance. This will probably just give them a break.

I saw Valitar and I have to agree with Mr. Zatkow. Tatyana Remley was the most out of place individual in the entire show. Literally EVERYONE else was in for the spirit of the show and they did amazing and entertaining performances. Remley, however just pranced around on a horse with a serious case of "Look at me" that was a real turn off. At least twice she came out doing essentially the same thing and it sort of turned my stomach it was so obvious. It had "I wanna be int the show" written all over it. Kudos to the rest of the cast for putting up with that garbage - you are all better people than I 'cause I would have expressed my opinion and then left as did many so I read.

What disgusting excuses for human beings....to drop that show without ANY regard for the performers OR even the horses????? The entire farce was just to give the trophy wife something to do. ANYBODY can ride a horse around in circles. How LAME to open at the same time as Cavalia....shame on you....move to another country and stop behaving like losers.
