Poway Sees ‘Boom’ in Construction

Poway construction activity jumps 220 percent.

Poway experienced what can only be called a “boom” in construction for the week of Oct. 17. Total building permit activity vaulted from five permits (for the week of Oct. 10-14) to 16 new permits this week.

Construction projects that contributed to the rally included:

  • A 19,000-square-foot tenant improvement at the General Atomics facility.
  • Improvements for a dance academy on Poway Road.
  • New signs for Oak Tree Dental and Verizon Wireless.
  • Four new roofing projects.
  • Four new residential remodeling projects.

Despite the number of projects, Poway lacked solar photovoltaic construction activity this week. In view of the fact the rest of San Diego County was positively bristling with new solar projects, Poway was oddly absent from the list. The city is usually a strong player in the construction of new pools and spas, but not this week, or last. In fact, the only activity related to pools in Poway was the demolition of a 400-square-foot pool on Avenida Florencia.

All told though, Poway did experience a tremendous uptick in construction activity from last week.
