Sportsplex USA Soccer Field Re-Named GEICO Arena

GEICO employees have been playing ball after work at the sports complex for 10 years running.

With its West Coast regional headquarters a mere mile from , GEICO employees have easy access to the softball fields, batting cages, soccer arenas and other amenities the 15-acre complex has to offer.

Ten years ago the insurance company began an employee-only softball league that played on Friday evenings after work, and thousands of GEICO workers have played ball at Sportsplex ever since.

This month Sportsplex and GEICO announced that one of the soccer arenas is now known as GEICO Arena, which will appear on all schedules and promotional materials. Additional signage inside Sportsplex will also tout the GEICO brand, and the insurance company will be able to distribute promotional materials to the thousands of athletes and spectators that visit the facility each week.

“GEICO is the most successful and longest-running corporate sports league that Sportsplex USA has hosted. Our relationship with GEICO presented a natural opportunity to create this marketing partnership,” said Chris Vertrees, director of marketing for Sportsplex.

On Friday, Sportsplex and GEICO employees were joined by Poway Mayor Don Higginson and members of the Poway Chamber of Commerce for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on the field of GEICO Arena. Everyone smiled for the camera, even the GEICO gecko, who always seems to be smiling.
