Prime Poway Woman No. 5: Joann Whetstine

Whetstine is the owner of Social Media Marketing Consultants.

Even though Joann Whetstine owns and operates her own company, Social Media Marketing Consultants, she still finds time to give back.

Whetstine, a regular volunteer for the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Committee, has also given time to the Poway Patriotic Parade Committee, the Poway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Junior Achievement.

She credits her success to her mother.

"I was raised by a strong woman, my mother. She always told me to make sure I could take care of myself and that gave me a lot of drive over the years to feel I could accomplish anything," she said. "My advice is to always believe in yourself and trust your instincts, even if those around you do not agree. You can do anything if you prepare yourself, believe in yourself, have goals and have drive."

"I was aware of women’s issues at a very young age when my mother started the first Women’s Opportunity Convention in San Francisco in the 1970s. I volunteered on that project helping at the ticket booth and I always believed that as a woman, I could have any career I wanted and have a family, too. I am fortunate to really have it all. Women should never feel there is any limit to what they can achieve."
