Poway's Grocery Outlet Opens Thursday

The super-savings store opens on Aug. 8 at 7 a.m.

Powegians can soon save more on their groceries (and possibly ditch the couponing) thanks to the opening of Grocery Outlet this week, located off Pomerado Road.

According to a news release, Grocery Outlet is the largest “extreme-value” grocer in the United States, offering prices up to 50 percent less than conventional retailers by specializing in opportunistic sourcing.

The grocery store says they buy discounted close-outs of excess inventory from national brand-name manufacturers and private-labels — including fresh produce, organic goods, dry groceries, beauty items and beer and wine — and pass those savings onto their customers.

“San Diego continues to be one of Grocery Outlet’s strongest markets, with our newest stores in East Village and Point Loma being two of the top new performers in 2012,” says Melissa Porter, vice president of marketing, Grocery Outlet. “We are excited to continue to increase the number of store locations in North County San Diego where so many families reside. We’ve developed our new stores with these residents’ lifestyle and shopping habits in mind, such as increasing our natural-organic-specialty-healthy (NOSH®) product selection, and offering fantastic wine and specialty cheese items.  In doing so, we hope to attract both the shopper looking for organics and extreme bargains, but also the gourmet and conscious cook looking for specialty items at a great price.”

Residents can enjoy the Poway Grocery Outlet, located at 13345 Poway Rd., this week beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug 8. A grand opening celebration will be at the new store on Aug. 10.
