Air Force Orders 27 Reaper Drones Made in Poway

The deal could be worth as much as $377.4 million for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc.

The U.S. Air Force awarded General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. an order for Reaper remotely piloted aircraft that could be worth as much as $377.4 million, the San Diego Business Journal reported.

The government ordered 24 MQ-9 Block 5 Reapers, along with shipping containers, initial spares and support equipment, the Business Journal reported.

General Atomics makes the aircraft in Poway. Work is expected to last through July 2016.
