See the ‘Super Moon’ Saturday Night

Saturday night's moon will be as much as 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than other full moons of 2012.

The Super Moon will occur Saturday evening. This full moon will appear larger because it will be at its closest distance to Earth. This closest distance is called perigee, as opposed to apogee, where the moon is furthest from Earth. The moon will rise at 7:30 p.m. in the eastern sky. Viewing should be excellent except along the immediate coast, where marine stratus may obscure the sky. Click here for more information on the Super Moon.
