Get Cajunized: BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet to Perform in Poway

The Louisiana band will perform in the "City in the Country" for the first time Jan. 21.

Poway's going to get a little spicier.

The will welcome Cajun band BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet to the city Jan. 21.

The Grammy Award-winning band labeled the "Best Cajun Band in the World," is comprised of Doucet, David Doucet, Jimmy Breaux, Billy Ware, Tommy Alesi and Mitch Reed who have performed together for more than 26 years.

"... (B)ringing BeauSoleil to the stage will expose the audience to not only genuine, original American music but also to a group that has performed together since 1975 and has pushed the envelope of Cajun music to include many other genres," said the Center's Marketing and Development Manager Yvonne Dows. "... (T)his show will bring all of the flavors of Cajun music with lively playing and tasty anecdotes to the stage."

Inspired by early Cajun musicians like Dennis McGee and Varise Connor, the band's most recent album is Alligator Purse, released in 2010. They became the first Cajun band to receive a Grammy in 1998 for their album L'Amour Ou La Folie.

From Lafayette, La., the band will be performing in Poway for the first time. Powegians can see BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet at 8 p.m. Jan. 21 (a Saturday) at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $42 for adults and $10 for youth under age 18. Finally, on Sunday, Patch will host the Poway Music Festival at . The family-friendly fest will feature six hours of local music as volunteers collect donations for Palomar Pomerado Health's Jean McLaughlin Women's Center for Health and Healing.
