“There’s so much talent at Poway High School,” said Program Coordinator Emily Brown. “We were thinking it would be kind of cool to come together for a real fun night with a variety of acts put on by these groups on campus.”

The idea for the fundraiser came about after the PHS Music Boosters, a nonprofit that supports the PHS Instrumental Music program, expressed concern about funds, Brown said.

“They were saying that they needed to raise money to continue the program the way that it’s been in the past number of years,” she explained. “They were just really concerned about decreasing funds.”

What began as a fundraiser for the band and orchestra, soon expanded into a school-wide event, Brown added.

“These groups were all approached,” she said. “We have a handful that the timing was right for them and they needed the money, so they committed to put on this fun evening.”

In addition to $15 tickets, PHS students have sold sponsorships, which were $250 each. The sponsors will be listed in the program. Brown said each participating group will receive a share of the funds raised from sponsorships and tickets.

“We’ve tried to funnel as much money as possible back into these organizations, because they have stepped up and they’re participating,” she said.

Brown said the event is exciting, because the various PHS groups have never worked together like this before.

Although her daughter, a junior and the section leader of the PHS Drumline, has been in band for three years, she said she has never seen some of these groups perform.

“It’s going to be an opportunity for people to become exposed to many different groups on campus,” she said. “It will be an eclectic and fun evening.”

Participating students are selling tickets during lunchtime in the PHS quad. Tickets will also be sold at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, located at 5498 Espola Road, at other student concerts on Wednesday and Thursday.
