“I’m hoping that people recognize some of the songs we do and maybe sing along with us,” Hall said. “I hope everybody will come on out. We’re going to have a really good time.”

Local musician Gregory Martin Campbell will perform an opening set of about five songs and later accompany Hall during the concert.

“My partner Greg Campbell and I are rehearsing a lot of different kinds of songs that people are familiar with and maybe hear some new surprises too.”

The pair plans to play mostly songs that were popular in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. For example, they will play a train song called “Golden Rocket” and a ’40s song called “Adobe Hacienda.”

On the banjo, Hall will play old-time songs such as “Johnson Boys,” “Cluck Old Hen” and an original called “Back in the Olden Times.”

“I play folk and traditional songs and tunes,” Hall said. “The songs that I write are patterned after traditional American folk songs.”

Hall will also perform some originals, such as “Just Be Glad” and “Don’t Take a Lady for a Fool.”

There are also some surprise songs lined up. Hall said doesn't want to give away the songs, but says one of them is a hit song by jazz and pop singer Peggy Lee.

When asked why she has so many surprises, Hall said it’s “because I like surprises.”

She also wants to keep the audience’s participation a surprise. “That’s a surprise too,” Hall said.

Hall has played SDFH events for the past five years. She has also participated in the Poway Park Train Song Festival and Sam Hinton Folk Festival, so she is familiar with the local folk music community.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some old friends and also having some new people show up. We might even have a chance for the audience participate in a number or two.”

General admission is $18, $15 for SDFH members, and free for children. To purchase tickets in advance, visit TicketWeb here.
