Scrooge Meets Dickens on PowPAC Stage

From Mr. Scrooge to holiday gifts, Poway is finding its Christmas spirit.

is packing a punch this December with “Mr. Scrooge and Mr. Dickens,” running Dec. 2 through Dec. 18.

“Mr. Scrooge and Mr. Dickens” is a variation of the long-cherished holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” The play, written and directed by longtime SoCal newspaper columnist Charles Carr, also has a charming new enhancement—Charles Dickens himself appears onstage to read sections from his manuscript.

Produced by Heidi Ward, the production also boasts carolers, dancers, music and powerful sound effects, and includes a visit from ol’ St. Nick.

The play runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors, students and active military, and $14 for groups of 10 or more. To make a reservation, contact the PowPAC Box office at 858-679-8085 or email boxoffice@powpac.org.

Poway’s is offering free holiday make-n-take classes this and every Saturday until Christmas from 10 a.m. to noon.

Instructors will lead attendees through a quick and fun craft project, a different one each week. This Saturday’s project is a holiday gift box for a small gift or gift card.

“Last week was quite busy,” said Claire Howell, one of the instructors. “It’s a great way to get people in the door and have a look around.”

Guests are encouraged to make a reservation for a 15-minute timeslot by calling 858-513-8024. The make-n-takes are limited to one per customer and limited to the first 20-25 people.
