Whiz Kid of the Week: Chase Zollmann is Accomplished Wrestler

The Twin Peaks Middle School sixth grader recently placed second in the SCWAY California State Championship and fifth in the Reno World Championship. More than 3,000 wrestlers participated in the national event.

“It feels great,” said Chase Zollmann. “It’s hard work, and I’ll try harder next year.”

His father, Jay Zollmann, introduced the 12-year-old to the sport. Jay Zollmann was a wrestler in high school and college.

“We’re very proud of him,” he said. “He’s very disciplined, and he’s a very hard worker.”

Jay Zollmann also praised Poway Elite, which is a feeder program for Poway High School. 

“We’re really proud of him, and we’re just thankful that we’re in a community that has an outstanding wrestling program,” he said. “The program has such great coaches. They’re all an integral part of his accomplishments.”

In addition to wrestling, Chase Zollmann is committed to his academics. He maintains a 3.5 GPA at his school.

"It’s a great sport and it teaches life lessons," Chase Zollmann said about wrestling.
