This week's Poway Gives Back includes families, women and plenty of toys.

Bringing Back the 80s Proves to be Successful

The Midland Educational Foundation (MEF) raised more than $11,000 at its third annual auction on Saturday at the Poway Community Center. The event, titled "Eat, Drink, and Be 80’s," allowed attendees to bid on items ranging from sports memorabilia to babysitting services by Midland Elementary School Principal Julie Lerner. It's that time of the year to give back, and Palomar Council PTA is kicking off their annual Adopt-A-Family program. They're asking you to help a PUSD family in Poway and surrounding communities during the holiday season by donating items on the family's wish list. Last year the PTA helped 500 families. With unemployment and the economy what it is, they are expecting more requests this year. Basic items, gas cards, as well as modest gifts are needed. Anonymous gift lists are available for each family. Get more information on its website.

The Poway Women's Club has a large agenda this season. On the heels of their Teddy Bear Holiday Tea this past Saturday at Templars Hall, the non-profit is setting up shop at the Poway Christmas in the Park event on Dec. 10 in Old Poway Park. The ladies will be selling spiced mocha, gingerbread squares and Santa hats to raise money for their philanthropic work in the community. They've also set a date for their annual holiday luncheon on Dec. 13. Visit its website for more information.

Black Friday Remorse

Did you buy too many toys during Black Friday? Don't beat yourself up. Donate those extra toys to the children of the YWCA of San Diego County. Patch is hosting a toy drive and has designated drop-off locations at three Poway businesses. Check out this article for more information.
