Titans to Host Annual Fireworks Show

Powegians looking for red, white and blue sparks can stop by Poway High.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

The annual Fourth of July fireworks festivities at Poway High kick off at 7 p.m. on the campus. The Poway High School Boosters are helping to put it on. They are assisting with ticket sales, security, concessions and cleanup. Admission is $2. You can also watch from Lake Poway where it is $5 for non-Poway residents.  Band enthusiasts can watch the award-winning marching band when they perform in the Fourth of July Parade through Rancho Bernardo starting at 3:30 p.m. This event kicks off their 2011 marching season. VFW STAND DOWN

The is participating in Stand Down San Diego on July 15-17. The local post will sponsor a tent and volunteers will help with cooking and serving food for the homeless during the event. "Stand Downs" are one-to-three day events that provide services such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security counseling and referrals to other services to homeless veterans. Stand Down San Diego will take place July 15-17 near 4141 Pacific Highway in San Diego. To donate money, visit vvsd.org or send a check and put "Stand Down San Diego" in the memo.

SOROPTIMISTS NEED YOUR HELP

Soroptimist International needs your help in donating items to . The Soroptimists provide housing for battered women and their children through their international housing program. Since 1996, the Poway and Rancho Bernardo clubs have helped more than 25 mothers and 60 children transition to a safe and self sustaining lifestyle. Donate your items in the name of Soroptimist so that the group's transitional families will receive credit to buy items they need.

SELF-DEFENSE

The Rancho Family YMCA is offering a free self-defense class for it's members. Andy Prouty, a black belt martial arts instructor, will teach participants how to defend themselves. Non-members are encouraged to join the class for a $5 fee. The class will take place on Sunday, July 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call the Rancho Family YMCA at 858-484-8788.
