Rotarians Donate Dictionaries to Local Third Graders

This week's Poway Gives Back includes shopping, flowers and the former city manager.

THE GIFT OF WORDS

The third graders of Tierra Bonita Elementary School each got a free dictionary when the Rotary Club of Poway stopped by on Oct. 26. This is an annual project for the 60 clubs in Rotary District 5340. One “future Rotarian” (pictured) even wore his Rotary t-shirt from one of our sister clubs for the occasion. We also visited Los Penasquitos Elementary on the same day and have three more on our club's list, including Pomerado Elementary on Friday.

SHOP HOP THURSDAY

Speaking of Pomerado Elementary School, we mentioned it last week but a reminder that this Thursday the school will be helping to make your Holiday shopping easier while raising needed funds for the school. Win-Win! The annual Shop HOP starts at 5 p.m. You’ll find everything from jewelry, to kitchen supplies and crafts. For more information, visit Patch's .

HOLIDAY FLORALS BY DESIGN

If you need professional inspiration for your holiday decorating, the Poway Valley Garden Club may have the answer. They are offering a special presentation, “Holiday Floral Designs," with world renown Dutch floral designer and author Rene van Rems. It’ll be held at the Oaks Community Center on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. Find details about the event and the presenter on its website.

KIWANIAN OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to former Poway City Manager Jim Bowersox, who was recently presented the Kiwanis Club of Poway’s 2010-11 “Kiwanian of the Year” award, in recognition of his service to the club. Bowersox served two terms as club treasurer and is currently the club's president-elect.
