SDG&E Hosts Free Holiday LED Light Exchange Saturday

Residents are invited to trade in incandescent lights for cooler (literally) LEDs.

Are you someone who still loves the magic of Christmas and hangs up bright lights along your house during the holiday season? San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has a proposition for you.

This year, SDG&E is hosting multiple light exchanges throughout San Diego County allowing customers to exchange up to three strands of incandescent lights for LEDs. This weekend, there’s a  happening downtown and it’s free. During the  event at Seaport Village, bring your traditional incandescent holiday lights and exchange them for LED lights, which can save you up to 90 percent in holiday lighting costs.

Ted Reguly, director of customer programs for SDG&E, said the complimentary exchange became a tradition after receiving positive feedback from people who “appreciate learning how to save energy and money on their electric bill at the same time.”

Another benefit of the light exchange, although you don’t really need more convincing after hearing the words “save on your energy bill,” is that LED bulbs are also brighter and cool to the touch, as opposed to incandescent ones. The LED lights last 100 times longer than traditional lights and reduce a fire hazard.

According to SDG&E, last year, more than 4,300 customers exchanged over 12,635 strands of lights. Will you be part of the statistics this year? To participate in this free exchange, all you have to do is come to Seaport Village, located downtown at West Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway, on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Make sure you bring your old lights and a copy of your current SDG&E bill or your California ID and you'll get free LED Christmas lights.

Can't make it to this exchange? Don't fret! SDG&E has more opportunities for you to score some free LED lights.
