Chargers Punter to Host MNF Party in Poway

Mike Scifres and other Chargers will be at Kaminski's BBQ as guest servers Monday night.

Charger fans won’t be watching the Bolts on TV Sunday—they played this week’s game on Thursday, whipping the Chiefs 31-13. But fans can see some of their favorite players in Poway on Monday when punter Mike Scifres holds a benefit at Kaminski’s BBQ and Sports Lounge.

Scifres and a group of other players will be volunteering as servers during the Monday Night Football game, with proceeds going to the punter’s MS-5 Foundation. The foundation supports children’s hospitals in San Diego and New Orleans, Scifres’ hometown and site of Monday night’s game between the Eagles and the Saints.

Kaminski’s has countless TVs in the large bar area to watch the game, which starts at 5:30 p.m. It hasn’t been determined yet which players will be serving with Scifres on Monday, but arriving early is recommended as Monday nights can get busy, even without the rare treat of having pro football players bring you your food.

Scifres almost lost a leg to infection when he was a child, and credits Children’s Hospital in New Orleans with saving his life, not to mention his leg, which he has put to good use as one of the premier punters in the NFL.

“I am blessed to be where I am today and am committed to using the many resources that I have gained through my NFL career to give back to the community,” Scifres said on his website.
