Red Flag Warning Continues Into Saturday

Winds are expected to peak in Poway on Friday.

A red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service will continue to be in effect into early Saturday afternoon, with winds gusts in Poway possibly hitting 45 mph on Friday. Humidity levels may dip into the teens, creating potentially dangerous wildfire conditions.

It was on Oct. 25, 2003, that Santa Anna winds began that fueled the Cedar Fire, which started in the Cleveland National Forest south of Ramona. It grew into the largest wildfire in California history, burning more than 280,000 acres and killing 16 people.

Residents in fire-prone areas such as Poway are advised to be aware of the fire danger during the red-flag warning.
