Prime Poway Woman No. 9: Sharon Cafagna

Cafagna is a member of the Poway Community Association.

For 35 years, Sharon Cafagna has delivered Prime Poway Woman qualities to the City in the Country.

Cafagna, the wife of the late Mayor Mickey Cafagna, is a member of the Poway Community Association, where she has volunteered in the organization of the popular Poway Days Parade, and most recently the 2011 Poway Patriotic Parade.

“We raised a record amount of money—very generous of the people of our community, given this distressed economy,” she said. “We also drew a record number of spectators and vets, that we are so grateful for and proud of, to attend the parade. Our official counters figured over 10,000 spectators.”

But Powegians can catch Cafagna elsewhere. She’s a member of the Palomar Pomerado Hospital Foundation Board, an organization where her husband once served, and volunteers for the Poway Rodeo.

A former full-time mother and now a grandmother of five, Cafagna said it’s important for women to “try and make the most of every day.”

“This precious time goes by so fast and none of us know what tomorrow may bring,” she said. “So, take a deep breath and enjoy all these wonderful times we have whether it is being a mother, wife, friend, professional or a volunteer.”

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

“I think it is a very nice way to honor special women who have tried to make a positive difference in their life and others.”
