Prime Poway Woman No. 11: Carol Vandervelden

Carol Vandervelden has advocated for small businesses in Poway and Ramona for years.

Vandervelden, who has lived in Poway for 23 years, has a background in interior design services and owns Vandervelden Design. And as a small business owner, Vandervelden felt the need to take her efforts a bit further.

The Prime Poway Woman oversees RelyLocal—Poway & Ramona, an online resource for small and local businesses that is working to help small business owners succeed.

"Having been a small business owner for many years, I understand the necessity to advertise," she said. "I understand, as well, how difficult that can be in tough economic times. RelyLocal gives business owners a lot of bang for their advertising buck. It gives residents a place to locate and discover local businesses. Ultimately both the businesses and residents benefit."

But she does more than that. The mother of two has volunteered for school activities, the Boy Scouts and many other community events.
