Prime Poway Woman No. 1: Karen Dunn

Dunn is a major force behind Soroptimist International of Poway.

Since coming to Poway in 1977, Dunn has played a number of roles in Poway.

She's been actively involved in the Soroptimist International of Poway, Poway Chamber of Commerce, Poway Spirit Day and Abraxas High School.

On top of all that, Dunn's auto shop was named an award-winning business by the Automobile Club of America.

And the success of Poway Transmissions in the 30 years it's been in business is what Dunn is most proud of.

"We work hard and automatic transmissions are complicated to work on," she said. "We stand behind what we do."

Dunn, who is most inspired by her mother, Millie Green, said her motto is "Look beyond what you can see, and focus on what you can imagine."

What does Women's History Month mean to you?

"It’s a time to reflect on how hard women have fought for equality but also a time to realize how many women around the world have little or no rights and how that affects the future of peace on this planet. Which is why I belong to Soroptimist—their mission is to improve the lives of women and girls around the world."
