Poway Man Cited for DUI After Crash Causes Power Outage

A motorist was facing criminal prosecution Friday after crashing his vehicle into a pair of transformers in Poway, injuring himself and causing a power outage, authorities said.

Benjamin Fulton of Poway was driving westbound on Stowe Drive when he crossed over center lines and two eastbound lanes near Community Road about 8 p.m. Thursday, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Chad Boudreau said in a statement. His vehicle then crashed into two transformers before stopping a short distance away, he said.

Fulton was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated for facial injuries and later released, according to the sergeant. He also was cited for driving under the influence, he said.

The crash caused a power outage that lasted about an hour, Boudreau said. A least 219 San Diego Gas & Electric customers were affected, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
