Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps Is Looking for Volunteers

The PNEC is looking for volunteers to represent each of Poway's 65 neighborhoods.

In light of the recent countywide blackout, Poway City Council liaison Merrilee Boyack is now more inspired than ever to help launch the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps (PNEC), an organization dedicated to providing support to all city neighborhoods in the event of an emergency.

But she needs your help.

“We’re just in the initial recruiting phase where we’re looking for volunteers for each neighborhood,” Boyack said.

There are 65 identified neighborhoods in Poway and PNEC only has about 20 volunteer emergency coordinators. A coordinator would be responsible for getting information to and from the neighborhood―whether via cell phone, email or an alternate method―so residents aren’t left in the dark (perhaps literally).

“I’m very motivated and excited to get this in place,” said Boyack, who believes every neighborhood can be properly prepared for an emergency. “I think it’ll help the flow of communication.”
