LITTLE JUMPS/BIG CHANGES
It's the third annual “Little Jumps/Big Changes” campaign now through the month of February at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, including the Sulpizio Family branch in Poway.
The campaign provides valuable knowledge to club members about leading active and healthier lifestyles through cooking classes and daily health and physical education classes. It's especially important considering the alarming national statistics on childhood obesity and the serious health risks our children face.
Little Jumps is also one of the club's major fund-raisers of the year in support of their three priority outcomes of academic success, character development and healthier lifestyles. The Boys and Girls Clubs serve 25,000 youth in San Diego. The Sulpizio branch in Poway at 12988 Bowron Rd., next to Valley Elementary, serves about 80 kids a day in grades K through 8 during the school year and 150 per day during the summer months. They offer transportation pickup services from several local elementary schools. The overall goal is to raise $50,000 during the month of February. Donate and learn more on line at www.SDYouth.org.
The next meeting of the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps is 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, February 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 14211 Twin Peaks Road. Formed over a year ago, PNEC has helped prepare members for the next wildfire or earthquake. This time, the focus is on first aid and what to do when the ambulance can't come.
A follow-up certification class will also be offered this Saturday, February 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for those who can't make the Thursday meeting. For more details visit www.PowayNEC.com or find them on Facebook.
